Nazzcar

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PETE!

Warning: this post is not art-related, except for some of the photos that are a little Arty...

Last Sunday we met up with Pete's dad for the Nextel Cup Series Nascar Race in Sonoma. After a wild goose chase, we get our HOTPASSes and head over to the garage area for some lunch and a tour of the Pit.

Go Little Debbie! Go!

These trucks are spaced about 18" apart and there are about 40 of them. Check out the IMAX movie

That's the view from where the media trailers are located,

and we tagged along into the broadcast trailers, which are very air-conditioned and highly technological.

We also tagged along to The Conference, in a room in which every Exec, pit chief and driver sat, along with Celebrity Footbal Pro Jerry Rice and Singer Emma Watson. The head official then said a prayer and thanked God for their sponsors. Really.

Down at the Pit, Dick introduces us to Jimmy Johnson. He wound up placing 17th.

Then over to meet Juan Pablo Montoya. He had a media blitz around him because he's the first Latino to race in Nascar. He wound up WINNING the race. Nice driving, Juan! I credit the Glover family as his good-luck charm. Meanwhile, Bill Elliot, driver of Car 21, the famous Little Debbie car, came in 19th.

Can I get a shot with Juan Pablo? No? okay then, I'll just stand here...

Things get serious when the National Anthem starts.

This is Juan Pablo's Pit Crew, and we stayed here for a bit, very worried that we would be crushed the minute Juan Pablo needed tires.

But the officials were standing by

Wanna Snickers? ...Fetch!

Then we head up to the Suites where there's more food and wine and beer and Nascar Execs, and a view of the grand stands and people's sunburned necks.

Do you see the truck being suspended on a crane? What's that about? I think it's a prize.

As Dick's Helicoptor takes off, we go to our car, and to our dismay, no start. Must've left the lights on again.

Then the next day we took the Tiburon Ferry to Angel Island and hiked up to Mount Livermore. Aah, peace, quiet and a 360 degree view of the Bay:
